Description
The visit dedicated to the Templars in Milan traces the history of the presence of order in Milan, including re-enactments, ancient churches and places rich in history, mysteries and curious symbologies. The Order of the Templars was one of the first and most well-known Christian chivalry religious orders. Born to protect the Holy Sepulcher and the pilgrims who went on pilgrimage to Jerusalem, during its existence, the order carried out three main actions besides the religious one : military activity, land cultivation, management of economic and financial systems.
The spread of the Order also in the West was linked to the need to guarantee economic and financial support in the Holy Land through agricultural crops, arms production, horse breeding and recruitment. The presence of the Templars in Milan dates back to 1135, leaving traces still visible today.
Starting from the church of Santa Maria della Pace, we will explore the traces of the Templars in the Guastalla Gardens area, visiting the church of San Paolo and Barnaba, the place where the Commandery of the Templars was located, from which incomes were administered and without neglecting references to the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio, where the Templars were housed and where they are still clearly visible signs of their passage, we will travel via della Commenda, where the ancient House of the Templars has recently been discovered …
