Description

A journey into the heart of Italy, in the footsteps of San Benedetto starting from Orvinio up to Subiaco. A spectacular journey that will give intense emotions walking through the streets of the small and welcoming villages of the Lucretili Mountains to reach the place where San Benedetto lived a fundamental part of his life.

PROGRAM OF THE 1st DAY
Arrival at Orvinio, a pretty village in Lazio among the most beautiful in Italy, it is the highest town in Parco dei Monti Lucretili. It stands on a hill around the imposing castle belonging to the family of the Marquises Malvezzi Campeggi. The boundary wall retains its imposing appearance occupying most of the historic center, with its towers. After few kilometers, you can visit the church-sanctuary of the Madonna di Vallebona founded in the 12th century, with the various paintings and frescoes by Vincenzo Manenti inside. From outside you can admire the magnificent panorama over the valley. Accommodation in one of our specialized facilities, dinner and overnight stay.

PROGRAM OF THE 2nd DAY
From Orvinio to Mandela – 20 km – travel time 5/7 hours – challenging

Magnificent mountain stage that extends largely within the Monti Lucretili Regional Park. This is a challenging stage but you will be rewarded by the fantastic views that the route can offer until the arrival in Mandela, a small village full of romantic little squares and alleys, an ideal place to live among nature, mountains and silence. In Mandela it is also possible to visit the Castle of the Marquises of Gallo dating back to the Roman period, with the 1100 tower. Accommodation in one of our specialized facilities, dinner and overnight stay.

PROGRAM OF THE 3rd DAY
From Mandela to Subiaco – 30 km – travel time 6/8 hours – easy

A simple and suggestive stage at the same time. It develops entirely through streets with almost inexistent traffic. For those who wish, the stage can be broken in Gerano, halfway between Mandela and Subiaco. The stage ends with the arrival in the village of Subiaco which represents a fundamental place for the Benedictine experience, where they meet spirituality, nature, history and art. Accommodation in one of our specialized facilities, dinner and overnight stay.

PROGRAM OF THE 4th DAY
Visit of Subiaco. It’s possible to admire the monastery of San Benedetto, or “Sacro Speco” and the monastery of Santa Scolastica, cradle of the Italian press.
