Milan is a cosmopolitan city, which has always been characterized by an incalculable series of cultural loans, exchanges and interactions between different peoples and peoples. In the new globalized landscape there are numerous foreign citizens who have decided to settle in the city, leaving their mark in the evolution of the urban scenario. These itineraries allow you to do a “girogiromondo”, staying in the city: accompanied by migrant women, you will in fact go to the discovery of cultural legacies, places of worship, recreational and associative spaces, conviviality and socializing of the different ethnic communities and you will know closely the personal history of migration and integration of these “particular” guides.
ميلان Arab itinerary “Walking with Hanan”
Hanan will introduce himself and tell you shortly about his integration history in Milan. Along the way he will provide you with some data on the presence and rooting of the Arab population in some areas of the city and will tell you some anecdotes about the Egyptian village Tatun and the Moroccan town of Fquih Ben Salah, known as “la petite Milan”. He will show you how the Arab citizens living in Milan live, in which sectors they are most busy, what kind of relationships they have with their motherland, what information channels they have, which are their main places of worship; you can also visit the associative spaces of the Arab community and meet some representatives.
Along the way we will also talk about the events organized annually by the Arab communities in the city and we will guide you to discover the ethnic cuisine by dining in an Arab restaurant.
There are two suggested itineraries:
Duration of the visit: from 9.30 to 12.30
Visits to the Church of San Nazaro in Brolo with the tomb of the Egyptian doctor Dioscuro – to the Church of Sant’Antonio Abate, an Egyptian anchorite – at the baptismal font in the Cathedral where Ambrogio baptized Augustine – at the Egyptian Room of Palazzo Morando.
Duration: from 10.00 to 16.00
Visits to the Church of San Maurizio, a former general of the Roman army at the head of the Theban Legion – to the Church of San Vittore al Corpo, dedicated to the saint from Mauritania – to the Egyptian Room of Palazzo Morando – lunch at the restaurant The Arab house – In the afternoon visit to the Egyptian Association LOTUS in via Giovanni Meli, 36 (viale Padova area) and meeting with one of the representatives.
